Cincinnati Bengals: Carson vs. Kitna

carson_kitnaCincinnati Bengals: Carson vs. Kitna

When Marvin Lewis handed the starting QB job to Carson Palmer this year, it was expected that the team and Palmer in particular would suffer some growing pains. However, sitting at 1-4 and just hours away from facing the 5-1 Donkeys, Lewis' unwavering committment and resolve to keep Carson Palmer the starter is about to get tested like never before.

Right now, our lack of production offensively is not coming from the quarterback position," Lewis said. "Our lack of production comes from dropping balls, from not running the ball consistently." - Knight Ridder
That's coachspeak for; 'leave my boy alone, he needs to learn, we think he's going to get better soon'. But we all know you can't run if the defense doesn't respect the pass. And right now, nobody is fearing Cinci's air attack despite sporting one of the league's best big play WR's in their lineup - Chad Johnson. Bengals fans haven't forgotten that this team was 8-8 and just one win shy from a potential playoff berth under the stewardship of Jon Kitna last year. With the Bengals season already on life support, a poor performance by Carson Palmer this evening (Cincinnati's first hosted Monday Night Football game in 15 years) and Marvin Lewis's verbal love and support for Palmer is likely to fall on deaf ears for good. Make no mistake about it, the tipping point has arrived.
