Bucs continue team facelift

pg2_g_douglas_275.jpg

Ok, we all know that free agent season is one where teams plug those nasty little holes that kept them from doing well or better than they did in the previous season. It is also where teams rid themselves of players who are not effective any longer or ones that have ridiculous contracts overall. But when you consider that Tampa Bay has signed nine players in the free agent season, not even that was something that was expected.

The Buccaneers did not have a bad season--they made the playoffs, for Pete's sakes. But there was still a need that management felt needed to take place on many fronts, and today the Bucs went out and signed defensive end Marques Douglas, who was a solid player for the San Francisco 49ers over the last several years. He played has played in both a 4-3 and 3-4 defensive set, and the Bucs run a very tight 4-3, so he should fit in nicely to their plans.

The moves that the Bucs have made have been split--4 on defense, 5 on offense. Douglas will be joined by newly signed teammates Jimmy Wilkerson, Teddy Lehman, and Leon Joe. One thing is for sure--the Bucs are not resting on any laurels and are probably not done.
