Bears wave bye-bye to Muhsin

muhsin.jpg

Muhsin Muhammad came to Chicago with a dream of reviving a franchise that had been mostly run-oriented for what seemed like forever. That was three years ago. Now, after his receiving numbers have continued to drop even as the Bears have improved to the point of a Super Bowl appearance, the Bears have decided that Muhammad will no longer be a part of their team.

While this moves seems a bit odd considering Bernard Berrian, the team's deep threat, is a free agent that will be sought after by many teams. Perhaps the Bears are going to put all of their money into one pot; Muhammad is a curious option for other teams, but is definitely not the #1 receiver he was when he came to the Bears. He would be served well to a team like the Chargers, Seahawks, Cowboys, Tampa Bay, all teams who have solid passing games but would not need to rely upon Muhammad to be a game-breaker, but could still help them move to the next level.

The receiving free agency field is a bit deeper than most years, so it will be interesting to see where he ends up; the fact is, like Byron Leftwich who was also released recently, Muhammad needs to chin up, take a little less money, and a less relegated role, but still be an impact player if needed.
