Bears sign Grossman to 1 year deal

p1_grossman3.jpg

Call it a stay of execution if you want to wax poetic. The Chicago Bears signed maligned quarterback Rex Grossman to a 1 year deal, even though by doing so, in no way is he guaranteed a starting position. Grossman, who lead the team to Super Bowl 41, struggled immensely last year and with injuries and benching, many left him for dead.

While the 1 year deal is by no means a nod of confidence, it's do or die for Grossman. Plus, there's no telling what the Bears will do in the draft--if they will go after a QB or not. But I would think that they would first have their sights set on a wide receiver after news that star WR Bernard Berrian will be testing the free agency market, and after releasing Muhsin Muhammad, their prospects at the wide out position are pretty slim.

And that does no favors for Grossman, who is an erratic passer at best, having to throw to possibly a rookie receiver as his #1. Sorry, Rex, but enjoy that NFL paycheck while you can.
