Anderson gets his due

The Cleveland Browns fans were frothing at the mouth. They had just gotten their dream quarterback, Brady Quinn, in the 2007 draft. After years of struggling and basically having little or nothing to build off of, they had finally gotten their chance to make it bigger and better. But something funny happened on the way to the forum...

After Charlie Frye started the year as QB and just didn't cut it, the assumption was that Quinn was still a little too green to play as a starter, so they gave a shot to little-heralded QB Derek Anderson, and the rest they say, is history. Anderson stepped in and performed phenomenally, posting huge numbers with almost 3800 yards passing and 29 TDs. To say the least, he had done his job better than anyone had ever thought possible.

So when he signed a three year, 26 million dollar contract that had a 14.5 million dollar guarantee, there was a consensus sigh on relief on both sides. Anderson and the Browns had not come to a contract by the time the free agent signing period started, and there were teams that had interest in him--but if he had signed with someone else, the Browns probably wouldn't have matched it, so instead of taking that risk, they locked him up.

What about Quinn? Well, until Anderson falters, it's clipboard city, baby.
