The Rams were as up and down as the most feared roller coaster at a theme park--they started out 4-2, then went on to lose 5 straight. The culprit? Well, it certainly wasn't their offense, which normally is sweet music to fantasy owner's ears. The defense was awful, and it doesn't look much better this year--how does that translate for the fantasy world? Let's see...
QB Marc Bulger--Crossing the 4K yards passed barrier almost seemed to easy for Bulger; his weapons to throw to and the staunch running game kept defenses off balance, meaning he could exploit them at any given time. This year, he should continue to build--he may even top his career high of 24 TDs. This guy is for real.
RB Steven Jackson--Life after Marshall Faulk has proven good for the Rams, and Jackson is another horse that you can cling your team to as a franchise player. Not only can Jackson give you speed and game-breaking ability, but he also is deft at catching the ball (90 receptions). With St. Louis high-flying offense, he should certainly be near the top of the list for RBs.
TE Randy McMichael--Ahh, the joys of the NFL. Going from offense-starved Miami to offense where "their cups overfloweth", McMichael should flourish. While he won't get quite as much activity in terms of receptions as he did in Miami because of the Rams' weapons, he should still the end zone quite a bit more. Definitely a solid pick.
WR Drew Bennett--I've always liked Bennett because of his grit, but in fantasy terms, he's just so-so. With everything else the Rams have, I can't see him really being someone you should get as a #2 receiver because there's just too many cookies to salivate over. Sorry, but I wouldn't gamble on him this year.
WR Isaac Bruce---They're not booing...seriously. Although they may be at some point, because Bruce is just over the hill, in my opinion. He's definitely lost a step and his receptions will probably go down this year especially with McMichael in the mix, so if you get him, don't get him higher than a number 2, and even then you're gambling.
WR Torry Holt--Even though Holt was shut out from the end zone for five straight games, he still caught just short of 100 receptions and 10 TDs on the year. His YPC (12.8) was the lowest of his career, but that won't happen again. The Rams will really utilize him as much as they can on as many opportunities that they can, so get him with confidence and don't look back.
The Rams will be one of the top fantasy scoring teams--period. With a defense that will be matador-like, the offense will need to put up a lot of points, and they are fully capable of doing so. While their overall record won't reflect it, fantasy owners will be smiling!
