2007 NFL Fantasy Outlook: Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh left a lot of people shaking their heads last year. Sure, they lost the Bus. Sure, they play in a tight division. But 8-8? Come on, even Bill Cowher is worth 4 victories alone!! Even with that being said, the Steelers didn't change too much in terms of personnel--let's check into it...

QB Ben Roethlisberger--Everyone knew the fantasy wouldn't last forever of Big Ben who seemed to win everything. With the lack of running attack that put fear into defenses, Roethlisberger was forced to the air--a lot--and it didn't really pay off for the Steelers. This year, with Willie Parker having a year under his belt, he'll have less pressure, but his receivers are less than fantasy owners want to see. Big Ben is still decent, but is no better than a #2 QB at this stage of his game.

RB Willie Parker--The Steelers tried the two-prong attack last year and it worked...ok. But Parker was the real story last year, and he should put up good numbers. But question marks still abound? Will the Steelers go at it as a two-prong again? Maybe even three-prong with Kevan Barlow in the mix? Stay tuned during preseason--it'd be an awful shame for the Steelers to not utilize Parker--a lot.

WR Hines Ward--We all love his personality and smile. What we didn't like last year was his down turn in production. Sure, he had some unbelievable years prior to last year, but it didn't make sense that his QB was throwing more and he was producing less. Do I think Ward is over the hill? He's teetering, that's for sure...

TE Heath Miller--In the tradition of hard-nosed tight ends coming from the Steelers, Miller fits the mold to a "T". When you figure that one out of every six catches is a TD, you can't be real unhappy--but you can when the guy catches less than 40 balls a year. If the Steelers utilize him more and his true catching abilities--watch out.

Other than that, the Steelers don't have much to think about fantasy-wise. The defense should be very good, so put them high on your list. But for fantasy owners looking for teams to light up the scoreboard--especially in the division they are in--the Steelers are bound to let you down.
