2007 NFL Fantasy Outlook: Oakland Raiders

Well, I knew eventually the alphabet would lead me to the Raiduhhhhhs. Not like I was looking forward to it. Why? Check out below:

QB Daunte Culpepper-No one really thought this would be the QB everyone would be talking about. That's because the QB of the so-called future Jamarcus Russell is counting on more guaranteed greenbacks. Well, obviously Russell has never dealt with Al Davis. Culpepper will start for this dreadful team, but don't expect too much--the Raiders offense is just pitiful overall.

RB Lamont Jordan--This was a much-hyped RB a few years ago, and while he has some value by being the go-to back for Oakland, that's not saying much. Jordan is not someone that you can get late in the draft if you want the value, but if you get him even middle rounds, prepare for a long year.

TE Zach Miller--This is an unsung hero for the Raiders; while many fantasy owners will shy away from the majority of prospects from Oakland, you can grab this guy very late and get some solid production from him. Culpepper has always favored his TEs, so look to Miller to get not amazing numbers but at least decent if not productive numbers every week.

WR Jerry Porter--I read where he was the "persona non grata" for the team last year, and I couldn't agree more. Porter is not the all-star he used to be, and while he could be a decent backup in your league and will probably be the first Raider drafted (unless some bonehead froths over Jordan and shoots himself in the foot), Porter shouldn't be looked at too hard if there are comparable WRs out there.

WR Ronald Curry--Want some good numbers about Curry? He is supposed to be the #2 receiver for Oakland, but he only started 4 games last year--BUT--in those games, he averaged 7 balls and 83 yards--so you cannot discount that number. If you are needing a #3 or #4 receiver, he can fit the bill--IF he plays every game. Watch closely during preseason....

The Raiders won't be much worse than 2-14, but they won't be much better. The defense is actually pretty good, but they won't be too happy game in and game out when the offense continues to sputter. Be afraid--be very afraid.
