2007 NFL Fantasy Outlook: New York Jets

J-E-T-S..Jets! Jets! Jets! Yes, the cheer is infectious, but unfortunately, Jets players have not had quite the "effect" on fantasy owners. Injuries, ineffective and inconsistent plays, and any other negative descriptive word that starts with "I" have plagued the Jets for a while now. Will it change this year? Check it out...

QB Chad Pennington--Every year there are more doubters, and every year Pennington seems to prove them wrong. Coming back from arm surgery last year, he tossed over 3000 yards after everyone said he was washed up. With his two leading receivers still in the fold, Pennington could put up similar numbers, but with a new addition at RB and his continued decline in passing strength, my bet is that Pennington will put up good but not great numbers.

RB Thomas Jones--While he toiled in Chicago in the fiercest of fans who demanded a solid running game, Jones was always part of a two-pronged attack--and while he was effective, he never really got a chance to showcase his talent. Now with the Jets, he gets to really exploit some of the things he's capable of doing. Expect for at least 1000 and maybe even 1200 if he's completely healthy plus 10-12 TDs.

WR Laveranues Coles--Pennington always has liked to use Coles, and while his numbers last year in the end zone weren't spectacular, many forget that with the lack of running game from the Jets last year, it meant lots of nickel and dime packages that kept Coles at bay when it came to the red zone. Now that Jones is present, this should free him up more to get lots of chances at end-zone dances.

WR Jerricho Cotchery--While I would draft this guy late just on his name alone, I also have to respect the fact that he had decent numbers last year and is still off many people's radars. While that type of play bodes well for reality TV shows, fantasy owners who forget about this guy could be kicking themselves when someone drafts them late in the draft and get quality numbers. Keep this guy in the back of your mind when it comes down to the dwindling rounds and you'll see the dividends.

The Jets should be much better fantasy-wise this year--if--and a big if--they stay healthy. Pennington is fragile at best, and Jones hasn't always been known to be super-tough when it comes to playing hurt. If they could keep it together, J-E-T-S will be heard around the world from all of the fantasy owners who are cashing in on their picks.
