2007 NFL Fantasy Outlook: New York Giants

The Giants have always been a fantasy question mark. For one, they've usually had some decent quality QBs, RBs, and WRs, but no one that you would say "Awesome!" to, but on the other hand you wouldn't go "No way!" for them either. Now that Tiki Barber has retired, the Giants are in a similar quandry for so many different reasons. Let's see what this means...

QB Eli Manning--Poor Eli. His brother is so popular, and he's still trying to prove himself. Too bad. Fantasy owners, don't continue to bite on Eli's "potential", because while his numbers are "ok", it's not anything that so many other QBs can match or do better than. A backup at best, without Barber to throw to out of the backfield as well, Manning will struggle again this year.

RB Brandon Jacobs--While filling Barber's shoes will be extremely hard to follow, Jacobs presents a new opportunity to establish a new sheriff in town fantasy-wise. With 16 TDs over two years on 134 touches, you can't ask for much more. However, the offensive line for the Giants is pitiful, and being in a full-time role is a new thing for Jacobs. He's a decent play, but don't grab him too early.

WRPlaxico Burress--One of the more consistent receivers in the league, Burress continues to put in good numbers week in and week out. Although Manning has not exploited his abilities to the fullest, Burress should continue to get approx 75-80 catches this year and well over 1000 yards. A great backup receiver.

TE Jeremy Shockey--You may not like his swagger or his mouth, but you can't deny again that this guy brings it week in and week out. He would benefit from an OL upgrade, but even without that, Shockey is still a stud at TE and will catch over 60 balls this season. The Giants best fantasy player, hands down.

The Giants won't make huge noise fantasy-wise this season, but they still have that roster of guys that are definitely worthy of being on rosters--just not usually as starters. Manning is the key to this--if he can creep out of his shell and start leading a team like his brother has for so many years, upgrade everyone. Otherwise, just look for another ho-hum year from everyone except for Shockey.
