2007 NFL Fantasy Outlook: New Orleans Saints

Like one of those things that you're not quite sure how it will taste and then after you chew it you go, "WOW!", the Saints certainly were the pleasant surprise of the NFL last year. This year, expectations are high and the city again is behind its "soldiers" to see if they can make it to the ultimate goal: the Super Bowl. Let's see how this pans out fantasy-wise:

QB Drew Brees--Many said that going to New Orleans would be the death of Brees' career. Not only did he prove them wrong, he did it with swagger. Carrying a rocket arm and the luxury of a talented RB that makes defenses honest, Brees should continue to raise the bar and keep himself among the elite. Pass on this guy and you'll be cringing the rest of the season.

RB Reggie Bush--Sure, he was inconsistent, but what rookie isn't? The fact of the matter is that this guy has the skills to pay the bills. His ability to bullrush, outrun, and catch the ball out of the backfield makes him one of the most dangerous RBs in the fantasy world. He'll still make mistakes, but he'll also have huge games in the process.

RB Deuce McCallister--many times, two-pronged attacks are nightmares for fantasy owners. With two backs like McCallister and Bush, though, you can count on great fantasy numbers from Bush and good numbers from Deuce. He will still get the majority of the carries, but his numbers will see a decline overall. He's a backup at best, but he shouldn't be forgotten completely.

WR Marques Colston--Was there any nicer surprise last year than Colston? No one thought he could step in and not only fill Joe Horn's shoes, but do it with bigger numbers. He is the go-to guy for Brees, and with the passing attack still gaining momentum, look for a big year from Colston. Let others forget about him and grab the big names, then draft him and snicker. Or just laugh loudly, whichever you prefer.

WR Devery Henderson--This is a high risk high reward situation. He's a big-number receiver (i.e. his catches are low but when he does it's for big gains). While Colston is still the man, Henderson can still put up decent numbers, but shouldn't be more than a backup for Colston owners or a 3-4 receiver.

The Saints will rival the Colts and Pats in terms of overall quality at the fantasy positions. They are young and they are hungry--great ingredients for fantasy managers. Don't overlook them at this point--every position player has possibilities.
