2007 NFL Fantasy Outlook: Minnesota Vikings

My my my, how things have changed for the Minnesota Vikings over the last few years. It seemed like before they had everything they needed: Randy Moss, Daunte Culpepper, Michael Bennett, and Coach Mike Tice. All of them are long gone. Now, we get a look at something similar to the movie "The Replacements". How does this break down? Check it out...

QB Tarvaris Jackson--With 481-year old Brad Johnson gone, Jackson should take over full-time. This really shouldn't make any difference to Fantasy leaguers, because even in deep leagues, drafting Jackson will really do you no good unless there's no others left on your bye week. Seriously.

RB Adrian Peterson--the phenom finally gets his chance to prove all of the naysayers wrong who say his injury in his final year of college would hurt him in the pros. Peterson is the real deal, and while he won't put up super numbers this year, he should be able to get the reps needed for a rookie to be able to gain valuable experience. He should really only be drafted as a back up at this point, but keep an eye on him early, because if you don't get him in the draft, you may be able to sweet talk his owner into a deal.

WR Sidney Rice/Bobby Wade/Troy Williamson--This motley crew of receivers is lead by Wade, who is the elder statesman of the group, but even with this, it's not worth a draft pick unless it's late in the draft and you need a bye week fill in. Rice and Williamson are too green and have not proven much at all. Stay away from them.

Overall, the Vikings are in a serious rebuilding mode, and for fantasy owners, that is the biggest red flag you can have. While there may be some flashes every now and then from some of the players, the consistency will be a factor, and Peterson is really the only worthy fantasy draftee.
