2007 NFL Fantasy Outlook: Denver Broncos

The Broncos have always been an enigma of sorts with the NFL. For one, they almost always seem to make the playoffs. Two, they seem to do it with a new cast of characters every year! So, what's the secret? Look no further than coach Mike Shanahan, who in his 13th year almost always grabs players that fit his game plan instead of trying to fit game plans to players. It has definitely worked. This year is no different, and let's find out why:

QB Jay Cutler--The guy only has a half season of NFL work under his belt, yet this guy should be pretty darn good. Why? Because that's just what Denver QBs do, and with the talent that surrounds him, Cutler will be sure to surprise this year. See if you can lay low for him in the draft (maybe talk him down if his name comes up), and then grab him after the studs are gone. It will be worth the wait.

RB Travis Henry/Mike Bell--Another year, another running back by committee. What is worse is that for fantasy owners, Shanahan is the most cryptic, tight-lipped coach prior to games, even when it comes to injuries. While Henry should be solid, Bell could also make a huge impact if they give him the ball in the red zone. Still, it's anyone's guess as to how it goes, so proceed with caution.

TE Daniel Graham--while some will think that because Cutler likes to throw to TE that Graham is a good pick, I think he will not prove to be valuable by any means. Why? Simply because of everyone else on the team eating up yards and TDs. Plus, Shanahan's teams always seem to go back to having a possession receiver, deep threat, and solid running game, which usually freezes out the TE, barring Shannon Sharpe's time in Denver. (Still, Sharpe was one of the best TE of all time, so that goes for saying) Graham, in my mind, has bust written all over him.

WR Javon Walker--some thought that leaving Brett Favre and Green Bay was a mistake. After being in Denver for a year, I don't hear that anymore--because Walker has proven that he is a solid receiver, no matter who is throwing to him. Cutler should pinpoint him early and often--he is definitely a stud in the league overall, at a minimum a top 10 receiver.

WR Brandon Stokely--look for Stokely to revive his career after spending several quality years in Indianapolis. As his natural slot position, as well as Shanahan's love for that pivotal role (Ed McCaffrey, anyone?), should make Stokely a great backup in any league.

Denver should again be solid this year, and fantasy-wise, Shanahan always has teams of great stature. While it's always a risk to draft a Denver RB, you can be assured that whomever takes over, they will be successful. Is it worth the risk to you in that capacity? Again, proceed with caution. With everyone else, it's definitely worth the time to draft them in certain roles.
