2007 NFL Fantasy Outlook: Dallas Cowboys

The Tuna has left the building.

After a mediocre and lackluster career with the Cowboys, Bill Parcells left the team and owner Jerry Jones went out and hired former defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. While that may not be ground-breaking news for fantasy owners, it still results in some shudders amongst those who were already nervous about Dallas' offensive players, as Parcells was always known as an offensive coach. Here's the trickle down effect:

QB Tony Romo--Am I the only guy who thinks Romo is headed for Bustville? I mean, the guy came on like wildfire last year, but let's face it--superstars rarely come from his background, and with Phillips now running the team as well as the Cowboys not really upgrading anywhere, I think defenses will have Romo's number this year. Many mags have him as a sleeper, I say wake up!!

RB Marion Barber/Julius Jones--although Jones has been given the keys to the position nearly every year, Barber could steal some more carries from him, and even when Jones is playing full-time, he's been less than spectacular. Barber will eat up the goal line TDs, while Jones will get yards. But the two-pronged attack is like nails on a chalkboard to fantasy owners. Be careful here.

TE Jason Witten--one of the most solid performers the Cowboys have had the last two years. Look for the trend to continue as he makes his way towards the upper echelon of the tight ends in the league.

WR Terrell Owens--If there's a reason to think that Romo will continue to succeed, it's TO. Yes, we all love to hate him and his cocky, arrogant self, but the man can play, and he will continue to post great numbers as long as he's healthy. If the Cowboys have to play any games without him though, it's unlikely the offense will be successful at all--he's that good.

WR Terry Glenn--ok, so the guy has nine lives it seems. He continues to post decent numbers every year, and he's a great possession receiver. But for fantasy purposes, there's so much more out there to grab.

Overall, I know the Cowboys have a decent team on paper--however, it's scary to think what will happen now that a defensive coach runs your squad, much less with a QB who started out hot but still muffed the field goal try at the end of the season--how much will that damage the team's psyche? Tune in, the drama is just beginning...
